Bob Iger isn’t wasting any time back in the saddle at Disney. During the 2023 Earnings call he broke the story that Disney is in the works of making more movies. Which ones? REMAKES.
The reality is making a new movie with all new characters is very difficult, expensive, and most importantly time consuming. Even with Disney’s massive team of animators, directors, screenwriters and more, they only have so much time. Imagine back in 1994 when Lion King first appeared we fell instantly in love. The movie also held our attention for years. Fast forward to today and movies seem to only hold the audiences attention for a few months. this forces the movie houses to kick out even more content in a shorter amount of time.
Another problem with making new movies instead of remakes is the fact that there is a massive streaming war going on with all the movie houses. This results in movies going straight to the platform and skipping theaters all together. A huge portion of their income stream is dying, and that’s movie ticket sales.
To play it safe, build cheaper, build faster, and accurately predict how much the audience will like the movie they chose to make remakes, or sequels to already successful movies instead of adventuring out into the unknown.
TOY STORY 5
The most surprising movie announced is Toy Story 5! You would think they ended Toy Story 4 perfectly with the toys finding a solution to live happily ever after. So what could they possibly make Toy Story 5 about? One thing we can be certain of is that Tim Allen will be reprising the role for Buzz Lightyear
See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond! pic.twitter.com/bwRzE487Vi

Will Disney ever stop making Toy Story? I would be not. your kids kids will be watching Toy Story 30. Besides Toy Story being the low hanging fruit on the tree of success for Disney, they also spent millions of dollars making Toy Story themes at the park, not to mention the toys they sell. It is possible that Toy Story 5 will go straight to Disney Plus to try to increase the perceived value of owning a Disney+ membership.
Zootopia 2
Disney is reaching back into the bag of succesful films to bring us Zootopia 2. Judy is going to be Hopping back into the big screen, or at least Disney Plus. It will be interesting to see if Judy and Nick become sidekicks and work together to defeat the villain, or if Judy will have a new side kick.
Frozen 3
Lastly another movie that Disney just can’t let go is Frozen. Frozen 3 will be developed for our viewing pleasure. I think it’s safe to say that the general audience are not tired of seeing Olaf yet.
